Project Phoenix reaches their destination, the Chara System, and found the first colony outside of Sol, naming the near-Earthlike planet Palingenesia.
New Tokyo is established on the Paligenesian moon of Suzaku
The first military space cruisers and carriers are built by the USPF. The Medusa Mk I is designed as the first one-pilot space fighter
A united Martian provisional government is created in a ceremony near the churches and temples built on the summit of Olympus Mons. Soon afterwards the planet is hit by the most intense global dust storm on record. Fortunately, it lasts for only a week, but causes significant damage to the Martian colonies.
The Terran Revitalization Movement begins. The grass-root effort to move agriculture and industry off-world grows to dominate the policies of many nations and megacorps. Trade with the Chara Colony soon becomes an integral part of the movement.
The first human-like robots are created with emotive AI systems. The first sexbots are introduced to the market amidst great controversy. Female versions sell much better than male ones.
The five largest megacorps: Darchobian Propulsion Industries, AstroTech Incorporated, Sigma Systems & Associates (formerly Apple Computers), StelLink Communications, and United Off-World Construction unite their economic might to found the United Systems Alliance and call for other megacorps and nations to join the massive political entity. The Alliance bids for and acquires the USPF, re-launching the security force as the Terran Navy, the first military arm of the new Alliance government.
New Zealand, the Joint African Council, the European Union, Canada, and the Reformed Provinces of China become the first national members of the Alliance
The Alliance Constitution is drawn-up and ratified. Russia, the United States, the Holy Islamic Republics, and a handful of smaller countries refuse to join the Alliance over the fear of losing national sovereignty. However, the majority of the megacorps choose to join, and the Alliance begins a period of extensive economic growth and prosperity. The so-called “Five Golden Years” begin, marking the short time before the Galactic Civil War when all of the human-occupied Galaxy was largely united and at peace.
The newly-founded U.S. colony of Eta Cassiopeiae (Eta Cass) is publicly announced, the result of a classified colony-ship constructed and launched from the far-side of the Moon back in 2085. The settlement is on the world of Liberty (aka Planet Freedom). The Sol-side of the jump-route to Eta Cass remains classified. The Medusa Mk II fighter is designed as a substantial upgrade of the Mk I.
Facing intense economic and political pressure, all remaining independent Terran nations join the Alliance, creating the first true global (and galactic) government.
The formal taxation of the colonies begins. Eta Cass and Mars agree to the measure, but Chara refuses, having now become the most successful, most populous, and wealthiest of all the colonies. Richard D’Vreese is the first child born on the planet Mandross (later to be renamed Rhea) during an expedition to the Delta Pavonis System.
Artemis Mk I light bombers are first constructed, but come with many critical design flaws.
-2150: The decade of the “Star Rush”; Nations and Megacorps rapidly expand into nearby star systems in a race for habitable territory and resources. A binding agreement is reached within the Alliance in which nations will be permitted to explore and colonize the rimward systems, while the megacorps will have claim to the coreward ones. Alpha Centauri and Epsilon Indi are colonized by megacorps, while Tau Ceti is first colonized by China.
THE FIRST ESCALATION – The Galactic Civil War begins. After diplomacy fails over the taxation controversy, the Terran Navy sends a small fleet of its trade lane security ships to intimidate Chara into submission. Unbeknownst to the Alliance, however, Chara has constructed a fleet of its own, and the first significant military engagement in space occurs near the primary Charan-side jumpgate. The Charan fleet is state-of-the-art and led by creative young commanders. The aged Alliance force is decimated and routed back to Sol.
War is declared between the Alliance and Chara. The jumpgates between the systems are blockaded by the Terran Navy. All other colonies cease trade with Chara. Jared Ashton is born in Montreal (Canada)
Chara officially succeeds from the Alliance, forming the Charan Confederacy.
The Crimson Shield is founded by Chara native Silvia Venkins as a radical and violent anti-Terran organization.
An executive order by the Alliance Director establishes the Office of Special Investigations (OSI). The organization is initially tasked with counter-intelligence efforts against the Charan Confederacy.
Suicide attacks from the fanatical Crimson Shield, now a semi-official branch of the Charan military, attempt to destroy the Charan-side jumpgate. They fail and the Alliance heightens security. A two-year stalemate begins. The final version of the Medusa Mk II fighter is released.
The Artemis Mk II light bombers replace the failed Mk I’s and see action as effective blockade defenders in Chara.
The Terran Navy sends an upgraded and larger invasion fleet to Chara and engage the confederates near Palingenesia. The battle cannot be decided and the Terran Navy withdraws back to the Charan-side jumpgate.
Earth experiences a sudden jump in surface temperature as carbon dioxide reaches a critical concentration in the atmosphere, accompanied by unusually heavy solar activity. The resulting loss of polar ice floods costal cities and scrambles Earth’s normal weather patterns. Disease, anarchy, and food-shortages threaten to engulf the planet in chaos and the Terran Navy cancels all further actions against Chara in order to help with the crisis.
The first Aurora-class carrier is built, christened the “Vindicator”. The Rhea Colony is founded in the Delta Pavonis System by the CEHR megacorp. After decades of technological problems and extremely harsh weather, the distant Eta Cass colony ranks as the slowest growing colony and one of the most expensive to support. Over the next 50 years, the United States enters a slow but steady decline in influence and wealth.
The android Lance is activated to serve as a sexbot onboard the Vindicator. Sheska Ivanov is born on Rhea.
Desperate for increased resources to rebuild the Terran infrastructure destroyed by the environmental disaster, the Alliance re-opens the Sol-Chara jumpgate to strictly-regulated commercial traffic. While not recognizing the Confederacy, the Alliance no longer insists that they pay colonial taxes.
The Rhean Planetary Defense Force (RPDF) is formed as local security for the colony
The Sabertooth-class medium assault fighter comes to replace the aging Medusa Mk II as the primary one-man warship within the Terran Navy. Medusas are demoted to escort and patrol functions. Roland Mitchells is born on Rhea.
 Gary Carelli is born
Amanda Mitchells is born on Rhea
The Mithril-class battleship marks the beginning of the Terran Navy’s peacetime build-up of its war-machine. Rebecca Corell is born in San Francisco (United States)
Grace Burton is born on Rhea
Joshua Terrance is born on Rhea
The Sabertooth design is revised, but the revision fails to address many of the complaints about the fighter from both pilots and ground crews.
Derik Elder is born on Rhea
Geneveve Tora is born. Richard D’Vresse joins the Rhean Diplomatic Corps.
The first Emerald-class missile cruisers are constructed to hunt-down large and organized pirate forces.
 Robin Kurosawa is born
 Sheska Ivanov joins the RPDF
Emerald-class missile cruiser design revised to take on Charan warships.
The unpopular Sabertooth is replaced by the Siren-class space superiority fighter within the Terran Navy. The fighter goes on to become the poster-ship of the Navy for decades. The Aurora-class carriers get a final design revision before they are replaced by newer carrier classes. Jennifer Fobes is born in the United Kingdom.
THE SECOND ESCALATION – A Charan-born terrorist rams a spaceship into downtown Los Angeles, detonating the ship’s nuclear reactor and killing over a million people. The Alliance blames the Crimson Shield for the incident and resumes its war against Chara. New Alliance legislation is passed restricting orbital traffic routes and forbidding the use of nuclear-powered ships within planetary atmospheres. To enforce this new policy, the Terran Navy begins work on a vast orbital planetary defense grid called PHALANX. The new military spending initiative by the Alliance results in the designing of the Ares Mk I heavy fighter and the Artemis Mk III light bomber.
Once again, the Terran Navy invades Charan space and this time scores a major victory, due in a large part to the effective use of the new Siren-class fighters. Terran Navy commanders predict the fall of Chara within a few years. Storm-class light cruisers first see action and prove effective in testing the new Slicer-class laser technology.
The first Alliance expeditions are sent to the Epsilon Eridani System, which lies strategically between the Sol and Chara systems. Ashley Price born in Southern California (United States) and Anatolja Mirunova born in Moscow (Russia).
The Quebec Massacre takes place, claiming hundreds of civilian lives and representing the apex of Canadian domestic unrest during the 2170s. Jared Ashton is demoted after the incident and transferred to the Rhea Colony. Gary Carelli is assigned as leader of an Earth-Mars patrol unit and establishes a reputation as an Navy Ace pilot feared by pirates throughout Sol.
Strained by Earth’s high demand of resources for its rebuilding efforts, Mars begins a peaceful petition to withdraw from the Alliance. Earth refuses. The last Mithril-class battleship is constructed, the design being too expensive and time-consuming to revise further. Aurora Yates born on Rhea, Jessica Carter born in Keb (United States), Rhiannon MacTaggart born in Glasgow (Scotland), and Cassandra Dory born in New Delhisina (Chara).
Sasha Carelli born in New York City (United States), Mitsabi Kiseko born in Kyoto (Japan), and Juanita Valdez born in Mexico City (Mexico). Ursula Veneberg born in Epsilon Eridani, Katherine Jones born in Annapolis (United States), Kate Ross born in San Jose (United States), and Christina Auten born in Chertsey (United Kingdom).
Rebecca Bradley is born in Wichita (United States), Mary
O’Reilly is born in Limerick (Ireland), and Franchesca Martines is born in Manot (France).
After decades of service and surviving dozens of historic engagements, the Vindicator is decommissioned and made into a museum chronicling the early Charan space battles. Lance is reassigned as a museum assistant and the replacing of his sexbot coding begins in order to make room for historical trivia about the Terran Navy. The PHALANX Terran defense grid is completed, making Earth orbit the most heavily fortified region of space in the Galaxy.
Mars begins a trade boycott with Earth, demanding independence. Colonies in the Asteroid Belt and the Jovian moons unite with Mars in protest. Without the domestic military might to respond, the Alliance blockades the Earth-side jumpgates for security reasons and refuses to recognize succession from any of the colonies. Derik Elder joins the RPDF.
The Riots occur on Rhea Colony, costing hundreds of lives as armed worker unions fight against Alliance forces. The RPDF wins the admiration and respect of the colonists by successfully protecting unarmed civilians during the conflict. Roland Mitchells drafted into the RPDF. Sheska Ivanov assigned as CO of Dragon Company.
The Terran Navy suffers heavy loses in Chara. Mars sees its chance and begins to attack Alliance forces guarding the Sol System trade-lanes. Gary Carelli’s patrol unit is ambushed by Martian forces and takes heavy losses. Amanda Mitchells joins the Rhean Diplomatic Corps.
Gary Carelli is reassigned to the outer systems. Grace Burton and Joshua Terrance join the RPDF.
Production begins on massive Eagle-class fleet carriers, and they become the flagship class of the Terran Navy.
-2190: EVENTS OF “ANGELS: DIVIDED SOUL”
Ships from Eta Cass fight off rebels and successfully deploy a jump-route to Chara. A massive fleet in Eta Cass prepares for a final attack against the Confederacy.
THE GENETIC PLAGUE - The most devastating disease in human history sweeps across the Galaxy. Over 99.999% of the human male population dies within two years, sparing only the lucky who are immune and the not-so-lucky who somehow manage to survive the ravaging of the disease. Geneveve Tora participates in the battle of Auleran. After a brutal and confused war in the midst of the Plague, the Rhea Colony expels Alliance forces from the Delta Pavonis System. The Siren fighter undergoes its latest design revision.
The Rhea Colony succeeds from the Alliance. In dire need of warships to defend from a possible Charan attack, the Terran Navy recalls the Vindicator to active service and it is renamed the “Outcast”. The superstitious among the Terran Navy regard the renaming as bad luck and the ship becomes known as the place to “dump” the undesirable personnel of the Navy. Lance reverts to his role as sexbot aboard the Outcast.
Both Terran and colonial scientists create a vaccine for the Genetic Plague.
Chara, Eta Cass, and Mars seize Terran warships left adrift by the Plague to bolster their own forces. Mars, Europa, and most of the asteroid colonies form the Unified Colonies of Mars and succeed from the Alliance. Eta Cass soon follows the trend of secession, forming the Free Republic of Eta Cassiopeiae. Construction on the Naga assault fighter begins with a vow from the designers to learn from the mistakes of the Sabertooth.
The first post-plague male child (Marc) is born in France. The Alliance declares that until the male population is increased substantially, men will be barred from military service in any combat roles or at any front-line positions. Chara establishes a military presence in the frontier system of Epsilon Eridani and begins colonizing efforts.
The Terran Navy begins to rebuild and rearm. Warships now possess all-female crews. The new Athena-class heavy carrier becomes the pride of the new Naval fleet. Eta Cass begins cautious trading with Chara. Katherine Jones joins the OSI’s Gifted Youth program.
The Alliance ruthlessly puts down the Martian independence movement. The Alliance Ground Forces occupy Martian settlements and the provisional government flees into exile. The Terran Navy institutes a transportation and communication blockade against all colonies in rebellion. Trade resumes between Earth and Mars. The largest Alliance fleet ever assembled is sent to Eta Cass in order to bring the colony back into the Alliance. Ashley Price and Anatolja Mirunova join the Terran Navy. Terran-born Tressa Nelwyn writes the song “Refrain, My Eyes” in response to the loss of her male family members during the Plague. The song is first performed publicly during a goodwill tour of Mars. Martian separatists bomb the event and Tressa is killed. Her song becomes popular throughout the Galaxy, beloved by Terrans and colonists alike.
THE THIRD ESCALATION – Chara sends an obsolete force of captured Terran warships to assist the Martian rebels. The force is quickly destroyed by the Terran Navy and the Alliance re-declares war on Chara. For the first time in its history, the Alliance institutes a military draft for all females between the ages of 16 and 40. The move sparks outrage and riots, and millions of women become pregnant via artificial means in order to avoid the draft. Sasha Carelli, Juanita Valdez, and Mary O’Reilly sign-up for the Terran Navy while Rebecca Bradley joins the Alliance Marine Corps, each for their own reasons. The Pele-class heavy bomber goes into production. Jessica Carter joins the Terran Navy. Aurora Yates joins the Alliance Ground Forces.
The fourth invasion of Chara by the Alliance begins. Mitsabi Kiseko signs up for the Terran Navy, and Loser is transferred to the Terran Navy from the Marine Corps. Franchesca Martines is drafted into the Navy. The Naga fighter undergoes its latest revision. Ursula Veneberg, Rhiannon MacTaggart, Christina Auten, and Cassandra Dory join the Terran Navy.
The Risae asteroid colony declares it’s loyalty to the Unified Colonies of Mars. Mitsabi Kiseko attempts to get assigned to the OSI and fails. The Terran Navy establishes a large military base in Epsilon Eridani to counter the confederate presence in the area and prevent the creation of a jump-route into Sol. Aurora Yates transfers to the Terran Navy and meets Rebecca Bradley at the Terran Naval Academy (“Veterans” short story).
EVENTS OF “ANGELS: 2200” and “ANGELS: EPSILON ERIDANI” The Outcast, with newly-assigned Captain Robin Kurosawa commanding, is tasked with putting down the revolt at Risae. The Aries Mk II heavy assault fighter is given a limited release to certain Naval combat elements. Kate Ross is drafted into the Terran Navy.
