I'm awake, wide awake. I should be tired; it's been a really long day involving waking up too early, foot pain from a new job, frisbee, and getting quite accidentally yet firmly smacked in the mouth and very nearly knocked out by someone with a far too enthusiastic frisbee-throwing follow-through.
Fearing I had a concussion, my friends wouldn't let me sleep all day, so I really ought to be tired NOW, but my body being the perverse prankster that it is, has decided that I am to be wide awake now, like it or not.

So I decided to give Angels2200 another read through. Actually, I've been going through it steadily over the last few days, but tonight I just pounded my way to the end.
And I have some thoughts on it now that I'm more familiar with the characters and stuff.

There's a few things I really want to know more about:
- The backstory. I gather that, at some point, there was a kind of "Story thus far..." thing one could read that isn't there now; learning about this male-killing plague (and if it's still active; could, say, a cloned male still catch it or has it run its course? And where did it come from in the first place?) and how the colonials ended up where they are and how they ended up fighting with the Earth would be nice. I can get some of it by osmosis, but ultimately there's still a lot that is confusing.
- Whiskey's father. If he really is still alive, I wanna know more about the beggar; whether he's still alive, whether he has (as I'd expect from an O'Reilly) decided it's his duty to help repopulate the Earth, etc, etc

One thing that I've sort of reaffirmed:
Quetz is a big fat crybaby. For some reason I thought Whiskey had done more to her than embarrassed her in public and given her the runs, but no...upon re-reading the comic (only my second run-through) she's lost her rag over THAT, and after she was a royal bitch the pretty much everybody.
I not only continue to lack sympathy for her, but I blame Loser's (apparent; we lack confirmation yet, though hope seems almost unreasonable at this point) death; had Quetz lightened up, taken the joke as it was intended, and been a better person, none of this would have happened.

Anyway...this is all just going through my head a bit as I try like hell to sleep and to ignore my aching, throbbing, shredded lower lip.

As far as I know there never was a "story so far" bit.

And I don't think anyone knows where the plague came from.

This is why there are things like the fanfictions and the other comic and even an rpg based in the universe.
But then again, what writer ever gives you ALL the answers?

There was a background, when Han draw the Angels' universe history.

I'll see if I can find this for you.

Try this and the following pages. Sorry, no better browse option than the big list at the bottom of the page.

Merciful Zeus, there's a lot of filler in there! I didn't quite realize.

Including exactly what I'm looking for: a timeline. Thanks! :)

When the comic was running more regularly, there were Monday and Friday comics with Wednesday fillers. There was also "Winter Break" (or I guess "Summer break" for Han... :) ) around Christmas/New Years which resulted in a couple of weeks worth of "filler". The "History" strips were a part of that.

There's a lot of good stuff in there, definately worth checking out.

It's cleared up a lot of what I was wondering about. Though I have to admit, the New Zealand/Australia war being won with exploding sheep seemed, to me, to break believability just a little bit. WAY more than 'Marvin the Martian'. Heh. It was just...too silly. As funny as this comic can get at times--and it can--there are some things that'll make me go, "Sh-yeah, right!"
How do I explain this...hmmm...the Angels2200 universe seems mostly serious. Characters might be funny, but the world it's set in seems quite non-comedic. So when the world suddenly grows a goofy historical note like exploding sheep, it just seems off-kilter for the setting.

But otherwise, the history bits really cleared up a lot.

S'where I got my new icon/avatar; I loved my Tank Girl icon, but for this board, at least, Whiskey seems more appropriate, especially to go along with my title. 8)

I remember this, makes a great avatar, just get it a tad smaller if you please.

And yes, this is the history I was talking about. Only I didn't have the time to find it for you 'cause I'm at the lab and had to get off my computer (usually I don't get ON the computer - not to have fun anyway)...

Er...it's within the parameters allowed by the board software; I made specifically sure to follow the rules to the letter...

That's okay. You pointed me in the direction to find it and it was clearly labelled. No worries. Thanks. :)

I think Whiskey actually caused the death, but what really annoys me is how the main characters are dropping like flies, first hammer now loser, they aren't red shirts people. And i hate to think what will happen to Mary when this is over. this is a surprisingly depressing comic.

Well, that's just realistic. They are severely lacking in skill, support, tactics and manpower, and are fighting a mostly unknown enemy in unknown territory. It would be very unrealistic for all of them to survive.

Of course, losing one of our favorite girls hurts, but it just makes the loss much more effective than if the only ones to die were "other people".

From the recent comics that have been put up, Hammer is likely still alive, providing she hasn't been shot.

And I couldn't tell if Loser actually died or not; the strips were a bit cryptic and confusing, with the visuals not helping much.
